MayWorks is a festival held in Winnipeg, MB, Canada every year throughout the month of May to honour and promote the many positive contributions of unions and working people in general. Inspired by events surrounding the anniversary of the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike, MayWorks focuses on the art produced both by artists (with their depiction of the working class life) and by workers with their own interpretation of their lives and struggles.

This is the 15th year for the Festival and it is also the 90th Anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike. What is the connection between the two?

Black Mask sat down with longtime Winnipeg trade union activst and president of the MayWorks Committee, Glenn Michalchuk, to talk about this years festival and the legacy of the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike.
