Canadian foreign policy: perception vs. reality

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

9 of 10 Canadians view the role of their country on the world stage as overwhelmingly benevolent.  Yves Engler shatters this myth, both historically and in contemporary reality, in his new book, The Black Book of Canadian Foreign Policy.  Black Mask reached him this week by phone and talked to him about Canada's role in the world, from the historical deployment of gunboats to Latin America to collect odious debt to Canadian banks, to the development of the "Responsibility to Protect" doctrine over the past 10 years.

Yves will be speaking at the Mondragon bookstore & coffeehouse, at 91 Albert street, on Thursday, June 11th at 7pm.  The talk is entitled "Canada on the world stage: a force for good, or bad actor?"
